Baby Veronica’s Birth Mother Sues to Declare ICWA Provisions Unconstitutional
Here is the complaint in Maldonado v. Holder (D. S.C.):
Wonder whether Baby Veronica's birth mother has any Article III injury, since she's given up parental rights to her daughter. I really don't know.
There is a second plaintiff, described in the complaint as "a Caucasian woman who resides in Minnesota and who believes she may be 1/64th Cherokee," who has chosen non-Indian parents to adopt her child.

makes me wonder... who is footing the bill for her to sue??? the non native family trying to steal Veronica??
Hi Nimise - good question! If Christy was too poor to raise Veronica and wanted to adopt her out to strangers, where did she get the money for any lawyer? Yes, she was paid by the pre-adoptive parents for expenses - not sure how much exactly.
It's just a tragic situation for Veronica.
